Main Ingredients
- 2 tbsp olive oil for cooking
- 1 lb chicken breast sliced thinly
- 4 cloves garlic minced
- 3 Thai bird chilies sliced, adjust to taste
- 1 cup Thai basil leaves fresh
- 2 tbsp fish sauce
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 3 cups cooked jasmine rice preferably day-old
- 1 lime cut into wedges, for serving
Cooking Instructions
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add sliced chicken and cook until golden brown, about 5 minutes. The chicken should sizzle as it hits the pan, indicating the right temperature.
Add minced garlic and Thai bird chilies to the pan. Stir-fry for 1-2 minutes until the garlic is fragrant and the chilies release their heat.
Stir in fish sauce, soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sugar. Cook for another 2 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and coat the chicken evenly.
Add the cooked jasmine rice to the pan. Stir well to combine, ensuring each grain is coated with the sauce. The rice should separate easily and not clump together.
Turn off the heat and fold in the fresh Thai basil leaves. The residual heat will wilt the leaves slightly, releasing their aromatic oils.
Serve the Spicy Thai Basil Chicken Rice with lime wedges on the side. The lime's acidity will complement the dish's flavors and add a refreshing finish.
